China Insight was conceived back in 2001 when 3 young, entrepreneurial co-workers from China decided that publishing a newspaper would be a good way to generate interest and leads for a consulting business which resulted in the printing of China Insight's first issue in February, 2002. Well, next month China Insight will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary.

The 26th Anniversary Banquet of the Chinese Senior Citizens Society (CSCS) was held recently at the Peking Garden Restaurant in St. Paul and was attended by a sellout crowd of over 240 people which caused some minor problems with registration and getting everyone seated. Unfortunately poor acoustics also made it difficult for those in attendance to hear very much but eventually Sunthi Paul who attempted to serve as the MC for the evening eventually was able to get the gathering to settle down and the program under way.

The stories of the many Chinese Americans veterans who have served in the American military from the Civil War until the present has been completely forgotten or ignored. This is even more deplorable as they serve as a counter to the accusations and negative stereotypes about the loyalty and courage of Chinese Americans that we have regularly been treated to in the popular media over the past decades.

On a brilliant Sunday afternoon close to 100 people came to the Chinese Heritage Foundation's 7th annual open house at Gramercy Park to celebrate another eventful year in the Foundation's young history. Under the watchful eye of gourmand Yin Simpson a festive table of hors d'oeuvres (hot crab dip, tea leaf eggs, peanut puffs, almond cookies, pea pod chips and fresh fruit, etc.) greeted attendees upon their arrival. A warm hum of conviviality abounded as old, as well as newly found, friends sat next to each other and got caught up on community news.

Although her birthday really isn’t for several months, that didn’t stop Jennie Hsiao from holding a celebration recently for several hundred of her close and personal friends with a brunch at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum located in Chanhassen, MN. The date was selected to be the monthly activity for the Chinese Senior Center Society (CSCS) members of which Jennie is President.
