The Chinese American Academic & Professional Association in Minnesota (CAAPAM) will host its 2010 annual conference, “Rising Above Uncertain Times!”  The event will include four presentations, dinner and an open discussion. Presentations

“Make Your Heart Smile”  Jon Pojasek
Jon Pojasek is a personal trainer, life coach, and motivational speaker, with a smile. Jon is often heard saying “Life is short and the time is right to start writing your book of life and happiness” Jon will share his passion and experiences with some simple strategies to help train and condition yourself to live a fullest life.

“A Life with Few Options”  Kao Kalia Yang, Keynote Speaker
Kao Kalia Yang is a writer from the Hmong community. Her first book is The Latehomecomer: a Hmong family memoir. It is the first book to have ever won two Minnesota book awards as well as nine other national awards in literature. Kao Kalia Yang is a graduate of Carleton College and Columbia University in New York City. She is serving as a writer-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

“Knowing Chiropractic Care”  Dr. Gary Kiekhoefer
Dr. Gary Kiekhoefer will give an overview of the philosophy and science of chiropractic. He will show how chiropractic fits into the wellness paradigm. Attendees will leave with a basic understanding of how their body works, how interference to their nervous systems affects their health, and ways to improve their health starting today.

“Uncertainty Here; Opportunities There – Looking at China from a Medical Technology Perspective”  Paul J. Gam
Paul J. Gam is Vice President of International Development at St. Jude Medical, Inc. (NYSE:STJ), a Fortune 500 medical technology company based in St. Paul, MN. He leads mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, and other international business development activities. Paul has been the interim Managing Director and General Manager for Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong; and started the wholly-owned subsidiary in China, for which he continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.

The conference will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Jun Bo Chinese Restaurant, 7717 Nicollet Ave., Richfield, MN 55423.  All speakers will present in English. There will be a dinner of authentic Chinese cuisine after the presentations and open discussion following the dinner.

The fee to register for the conference only (no dinner) is US$15.  The fee to register for conference and dinner is US$30.  Student can register for the conference and dinner is US$15.  To register for the CAAPAM 2010 annual conference, send a check payable to “CAAPAM” to P.
